UNIQUE FORMATION OF HISTORIC BRITISH BIPLANES TO FEATURE AT TRUST HOUSE WINGS OVER WAIRARAPA 09
A never-seen-before formation of historic British biplanes will honour the 90th anniversary of the British Royal Air Force and pay tribute to the end of World War One, at the Trust House Wings Over Wairarapa 2009 air show taking place on January 17 and 18 2009 at Hood Aerodrome in Masterton.
At the show, three replica SE5A fighters, along with a Sopwith Camel, a Sopwith Triplane and a Bristol Fighter will fly a keynote display, honouring the aviators of WWI. This will be the first time since the start of the modern Warbirds displays that three SE5A fighters have flown together, anywhere in the world.
Similarly the Sopwith Triplane will be on display at Masterton’s Hood aerodrome for the first time.
The famous Sopwith Camel is now well known at the Wings over Wairarapa airshows, where its manouverability and unique ‘blipping’ engine sound make it a crowd favorite.
These examples of famous British fighters, along with accurate replica German and French aircraft from the Great War, will be one of the highlights of the summer air show at Hood Aerodrome. Masterton’s airfield has become a center for historic aircraft and a growing fleet of the WWI replicas is based there.
